What bookkeeping services are

These are the bookkeeping services small business owners need each month: recording and reconciling sales, expenses, bank and credit-card activity, and payroll entries. A bookkeeping service for small business should also deliver a P&L, balance sheet, and CPA-analyzed executive summary.

Who it’s for, and who it isn’t

This is for you if…
This works well for owner-operated businesses with at least $200,000 in annual revenue, with exceptions for startups on a strong growth path, particularly service businesses, professional firms, and agencies. You are an agency, professional firm or contractorYou have one to five entities to keep straightYou want to talk to the person who reviews your booksYou want compliance risk off your desk for good
This is NOT for you if…
It is not the right fit if you want bare-bones bookkeeping. Plenty of firms market affordable bookkeeping services without guidance or tax-reduction support. You are looking for the cheapest possible optionIt is also not the right fit if you need someone in your office. All work is done remotely, with in-person meetings available at Tampa and Lake Mary. You are not open to changing how you run the booksYou want aggressive loopholes that do not hold up

What you actually get each month

Every month you receive a profit and loss statement, balance sheet, statement of cash flows, and executive summary analyzed by a CPA before release.
The note is the part most providers leave out, and it is the part that makes the statements usable. A P&L with no context is a document you file. A P&L with two paragraphs telling you why margin moved is a document you act on.

If something in your books needs a decision from you, we ask before the close rather than guessing and correcting later.

Bookkeeping and Accounting Services for Small Business

Professional bookkeeping services and accounting services are not the same thing, and the distinction is worth understanding before you buy either. Bookkeeping is the recording. Accounting is what you do with the record.

Bookkeeping covers categorizing transactions, reconciling accounts, and producing monthly statements. Accounting interprets those statements: what the margin trend means, whether the entity structure still fits, and what the tax position looks like before year end.

Most providers sell one and imply the other. Stronghold does the bookkeeping and applies accounting judgment through CPA analysis of the close.

Common questions

What do bookkeeping services include?

Transaction categorization, reconciliations, monthly financial statements, AR and AP tracking, payroll entries, a year-end close package, and CPA analysis before release.

How much does a bookkeeper charge per hour?

Stronghold does not bill hourly. Pricing is custom and flat-rate, so the cost does not move when a month is busy.

What's the difference between a bookkeeper and an accountant?

A bookkeeper records basic transactions. An accountant prepares accrual-basis financial statements and provides guidance on profit margins, cash flow, labor efficiency, and more.

Do I need bookkeeping services if I use QuickBooks?

QuickBooks records what you tell it. It does not know that a transfer was miscoded as income or that a reconciliation has been silently off for four months. See QuickBooks bookkeeping.

Can you fix books that are already a mess?

Yes, and it is one of the most common reasons people call. See cleanup and catch-up.

Do you file our tax return?

Stronghold handles proactive tax planning and works with an integrated tax-preparation partner for filing. We coordinate the year-end handoff so the books, planning, and return preparation stay connected. Tax planning.

How do I switch from my current bookkeeper?

We can begin with access to your existing QuickBooks Online file and financial systems. With your permission, we can coordinate directly with the outgoing bookkeeper when historical context would make the transition more efficient.
